SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Adrianna Antoniou - East Lake High School

Adrianna Antoniou has built her high school career on discipline, determination, and balance—qualities that helped the East Lake High School senior become the school’s first female wrestling state champion while also excelling in the classroom.

Principal Eric C. Smith

Dr. Eric C. Smith is an accomplished educational leader with over 20 years of experience spanning a variety of educational roles including classroom teacher, instructional coach, evaluator, and school administrator. Currently serving as Principal of East Lake High School, Dr. Smithbrings a deep commitment to servant leadership, high academic standards, and building inclusive school communities where students and staff thrive.
 
Before joining East Lake, Dr. Smith served in both administrative and instructional capacities in Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Williamson County (TN). His leadership experience includes instructional design, school safety, student data analysis, magnet/academy growth, and faculty development, always with a focus on elevating teacher practice and student success.
 
Dr. Smith holds a Ph.D. in Leadership and Education from Barry University, where he also served as an adjunct professor, teaching doctoral courses on organizational change and educational law. He also holds a Master’s degree in education and a Bachelor’s degree in criminology from the University of South Florida.
 
Guided by the values of service, integrity, and collaboration, Dr. Smith believes in listening with intention, leading with care, and creating a school environment where all students and staff feel seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.
 
Outside of school leadership, Dr. Smith has coached championship-level track and football teams, reflecting his dedication to fostering well-rounded student experiences both in and beyond the classroom.

Shawn Anderson

Assistant Principal

A native of Jamestown, New York, Shawn Anderson currently serves as Assistant Principal of Facilities, School Safety and Transportation. He also oversees the Academy of Engineering  Mr. Anderson received his Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Hiram College in 2002, and holds a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia. He also holds a Master of Education - Educational Leadership Degree from Saint Leo University.  Mr. Anderson taught instrumental music in New York, Michigan, and Ohio before moving to Florida to become the Director of Bands at East Lake High School, where he served from 2007-2011. During this time, the East Lake Silver Sound band earned State Championships in 2007, 2008, and 2009.  In 2011, he assumed the role of Technology Coordinator, School Assessment Coordinator, and TV Production Teacher before becoming an Assistant Principal in 2015.  In his free time, Mr. Anderson enjoys cruise vacationing, food canning, reading, keeping up with new technology trends, and other travel. He resides in Clearwater.

R.J. Denton

Assistant Principal

Mr. R.J. Denton grew up in St. Petersburg, FL and went to high school locally in Pinellas County, attending Keswick Christian School. Upon graduation, he attended the University of South Florida, graduating Cum Laude in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Social Science Education. In 2016, he completed his Masters program at the University of South Florida, graduating with a degree in Educational Leadership.

 Prior to joining the administrative team, Mr. Denton spent 8 years teaching various Social Studies courses at Clearwater High School, and coached Football, Cross Country, and Track & Field at the school. He was nominated for Teacher of the Year by Clearwater High School in 2016, and was the Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2016-17, after having won a Conference Championship earlier that year. He also oversaw the Freedom Ambassadors Civil Rights program, and has worked on many of the initiatives currently in place at the school. He currently serves as the administrator of Curriculum, Testing, Graduation. He is excited to be an Eagle through and through and proud to be a member of this amazing administrative team!

Dr. Megan Hatfield

Assistant Principal

Dr. Megan Hatfield is an educational leader with experience in instructional leadership, strategic planning, project management, and continuous improvement. She holds degrees in Adolescent Education, Educational Psychology, and Educational Leadership, including a Doctorate in School Leadership from St. Leo University, where her research focused on expanding equitable access to advanced-level coursework.

 

Originally from New York, Dr. Hatfield began her career in Florida teaching middle and high school social studies in Pasco County, while also supporting district initiatives related to academic programming, student support systems, and professional learning. She later joined Pinellas County Schools as Senior Coordinator for Strategic Planning and Policy, contributing to instructional priorities such as postsecondary readiness efforts, extended learning opportunities, family engagement, and pandemic recovery initiatives.

 

Dr. Hatfield is committed to creating schools where students and educators can thrive. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, visiting historic sites, attending concerts and musical theatre, and spending time with her family.

Dwight Latimore

Assistant Principal 

Dwight Latimore is a proud product of the Pinellas County Schools. Earning an AA at St. Petersburg College a Bachelor of Arts from Palm Beach Atlantic University, and a Master of Education from Southeastern University, Mr. Latimore has served various roles in his 29 years as an educator. He began his career at Bay Point Middle School teaching mathematics and served as an Assistant Boy's Basketball Coach. During his eleven years of administration, he has worked as an administrator at Hamilton Disston Academy, John Hopkins Middle School, and now at East Lake High School. In his duties at East Lake, he oversees the Academy of Business Careers, Mathematics, field trips and school activities while also coordinating East Lake athletic programs.  He resides in St. Petersburg, Florida.
